The Precious Purpose of Sunday School

I can remember when I used to leave home on Hwy. 45 North Citronelle, and begin walking to 1st Baptist Church for Sunday School. I didn’t make it there as often as I should have.

I really enjoyed going to the service station across the street, enjoying a bag of peanuts , a cold coca cola and talking to old Joe. I would listen to him tell me that I really needed to get on to Sunday School and did J.R. know what I was up to. If Pop did ever know about  my skipping Sunday school, I didn't know it. He probably had Joe watching me.  {Joe Mcgrew}.

Skipping Sunday School was easier and made me feel in control of the moment. Truth is, I might have gotten saved  earlier in life had I been there to listen to my Sunday School teacher try and plant the seeds of eternal life in my soul.

Just what is the Purpose of The Sunday School.

It varies from person to person, pastor to pastor, church leader to church leader etc., etc..

However you may think of Sunday School Time, it is not just for children. Sunday School is The greatest Evangelical operation of the local Church Body when Spirit Inspired. Sunday School is the meeting place for those who have concerns for their families.

Sunday School is where strangers to The Cross can get introduced to how the Cross was used to break the curse on man since his rebellion in the garden.

Sunday School is where relationships in Christ can grow to, and should become unbreakable. Involvement in Church to be shared and learned during the Sunday School Time.

The how-to-do-its of  the Christian Walk are learned. The function of the Church Body is shared and cared for in the Sunday School Time. All of these precepts should be spirit led, as well as all behavior in the Church.

I am a firm believer that waste is sin. There is no difference in wasting 1 second, or 1 penny.  This being said Sunday School should not be a time when the last week’s activities eat into the learning of GODS word. It is an intimate time filled with  the overflowing of spiritual advice, to those who are in need. It is a time for God’s word to be broken down in phases of understanding where some folks do not have that opportunity.

It can be a time of encouragement, to those who have problems coping. It can be a time of asking questions and putting all the answers together. Various topics are discussed and learned in Sunday School.  It is a time of equipping all the saints for the spread of the Gospel of Christ. Your pastor really needs the Sunday School Department to consider this purpose. Your Church is as the Sunday School is. A lot of places want the focus to be on the pastor, the building, the size of the congregation, the mission trips.

It is the Sunday School that really starts, builds and bonds our relationships in Christ.

Have you checked out a Sunday School lately. It’s not too late.  Please do not be skipping out on a place where so much can be accomplished. It is more important than sleeping late. More important than taking junior hunting. 

Have Faith in God, He will give you rest.

Have Faith in God, He will prove your family.

Have Faith in Jesus Christ, I'm sure glad He didn't skip his purpose, like I used to do. 

But HE couldn’t, because Jesus Is Lord. Please support your church by attending Sunday School. Please support your Sunday School by studying the lessons inside out. Please support Jesus Christ with your faithfulness. Our rewards are  heavenly.
